Helmet Fit FAQ
HOW DO I CHOOSE THE RIGHT SIZE HELMET?
The size of SIMBA SURF helmets corresponds to the circumference of your head, just like the sizing of a hat. Use a soft measuring tape like the ones used for tailoring, or you can also use a piece of string and measure it after you wrap it around your head.
HOW DO I MEASURE MY HEAD?
Position a soft tape measure (or string) just above your ears (about 3.0 cm or about 1/2 inch). This should be the widest portion of your head. Take this measurement several times to make sure you get an accurate final measurement. Use our size chart to select the proper size helmet.
HOW DO I CUSTOMIZE MY FIT?
A. Halofit Pads™ Placement
First, wear the helmet for a few minutes to see if it fits well. The helmet, once secured, must be comfortable, but it should not move forward/back.
If the helmet is too loose, insert the Halofit Pads™. To do this, insert the pads (without removing the paper backing) in the front of the helmet. We recommend using the Blue pad (7mm) first to see if this eliminates the forward/back motion. If the helmet still feels loose, place the rear Blue Halofit Pads™ in the back of the helmet. If it still remains too loose, repeat the process using the Green pads (9mm), which are thicker.
Mix and match the pad sets until you get the perfect fit. If wearing a large or medium helmet and you have a complete set of green pads you should consider trying the next smaller size shell.
WHAT IF THERE ARE PRESSURE POINTS IN MY HELMET?
If the pressure point is at the front of the helmet, try placing the soft Halofit Pads™ in the front Halofit Pads™ channel. This padding will often relieve the forehead pressure.
One of the unique features of the SIMBA SURF helmet is the foam molds to your head. Slight pressure points often disappear after several surf sessions. It is like breaking in a new shoe. The other option is to identify the location of the pressure point and place a weight in this area to lightly compress the foam at the problem areas.
